The RESNET HERS Index is the industry standard by which a home's energy efficiency is measured.  The HERS or HOME ENERGY RATING SYSTEM was developed by RESNET and is the nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a homes' energy performance.   A Certified HERS Rating can only be performed by a RESNET Certified Energy Rater.

What the HERS number means...

A standard new home is awarded a rating of 100 on the HERS index.  The lower the home rates the more energy efficient it is.  Therefore, a home rating of 70 on the HERS index is 30% more efficient than the standard new home.  A lower HERS index adds value and comfort to a home and helps the consumer to be an energy smart homebuyer.

What the HERS number means to a builder...

»  The HERS Rater helps a builder assure that maximum value and efficiency is acheived from building materials and construction methods
»  The HERS index provides the builder valuable information for quality assurance purposes and helps improve their final product
»  The HERS certification process finds performance failures prior to surrendering the home to a new owner, thereby reducing builder risk and litigation liability
»  As a nationally recognized program, a builder can receive national recognition as being capable of building performance homes

What the HERS Index means to a home buyer...

Whether a new home or an existing one that has been HERS rated, it provides valuable information to make an informed purchase decision which is a verified, tested & nationally certified registered value.
